I always loved and enjoyed writing but I was never really a full-fledged diary document-er or journal jotter. I usually just scribbled ideas, lists, poems or drawings here and there in my free time...but now, here I am in my early 30s trying something new. It wasn't really my idea - it was my doctor who encouraged me to do so at my annual check up and physical last week. Her words resonated with me and I found myself giving more thought to her suggestion. So, here goes. :)
Ever since I had stepped on that damn scale, I was slightly reluctant to schedule my annual check up appointment. I saw the number staring back at me and started criticizing myself for being at the same number I was at a year ago. I had hoped I would make more progress...or any progress. I guess I was only partly surprised because I already felt the odds were already against me and the journey would be harder than "average". I should share that I have both hypothyroid and dismetabolic syndrome. I also have a boring desk job but that's a whole other story. Either way, it's quite a lovely combination. For anyone reading this, the gist is I have a slow thyroid, a slow metabolism, and a body that doesn't naturally produce insulin properly, thinking it's in starvation mode so it needs to store the fat. Yep, I take medicine for both. For some reason though, even remembering to take all the medicine every day, day after day can be quite the challenge. That was another reason I was dreading my check up. ...to be continued
